View Attachments
Some attachments, such as PDF
- Use a standard PDF reader to open (filename).pdf. We recommend Adobe Acrobat.
- Use a standard ZIP client to open (filename).zip. We recommend 7-Zip or WinZip.
- Use the appropriate Microsoft Office program to open any attachments with one of the following file extensions:
.docx .xlsm .pptm .dotx .xltx .potx .docm .xltm .potm .docb .xlsb .ppsx .xlsx .pptx .ppsm
Open Encrypted PDF Attachments
Attachments can be stored within encrypted PDF messages. We recommend using Adobe Acrobat to view encrypted attachments like [ENCRYPTED] message.pdf or [ENCRYPTED] attachments.pdf. The steps you must follow to open PDF attachments depend on the device you are using.
Warning: Some PDF readers might not display encrypted PDF attachments.
Open Attachments on a Computer
To open an encrypted PDF with attachments using Adobe Acrobat on a computer, do the following:
- Download the PDF attached to your email and open it. You are prompted to enter a password to open the encrypted PDF.
- Enter the password you have created. The PDF message opens and any attachments embedded in the PDF are displayed in the Attachments pane.
Note: If the Attachments pane does not open automatically, select View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panes > Attachments.
- In the Attachments pane, perform one of the following:
- Double-click an attached file to open it.
- Right-click an attached file to either open the attachment or save it to your computer.
Open Attachments on an iOS Device (iPhone, iPad)
To open attachments using Adobe Acrobat on iOS devices, do the following:
- From your inbox, open the encrypted PDF message notification.
- If the message body and all attachments are placed inside an encrypted PDF document, tap on the Encrypted PDF to open it. Perform the following:
- Tap on the
icon on the top-right corner of the application and then click Share File via.... A list of apps in which the Encrypted PDF can be viewed opens. - Select the Adobe Acrobat app by tapping on the
icon (Copy to Acrobat). Adobe Acrobat opens and a password prompt appears. - Enter the encrypted PDF's password. The encrypted PDF opens.
- Tap on the
icon on the top-right corner of the application. A menu opens. - Select Attachments from the menu. A list of attachments appears.
- Tap an attachment to view it.
- Tap on the
- If the message body and all the attachments are encrypted separately, repeat the steps above to open each attachment.
Open Attachments on an Android Device (Mobile, Tablet)
To open attachments using Adobe Acrobat on an Android device, do one of the following depending on the device you are using:
Android Mobile
- From your inbox, open the encrypted PDF message notification.
- If the message body and all attachments are inside an encrypted PDF document, save the encrypted PDF to your device and perform the following:
- Open the encrypted document in Adobe Acrobat. A password prompt appears.
- Enter the encrypted PDF's password. The encrypted document opens.
- Tap on the
icon on the top-right corner of the application. A menu opens. - From the menu, tap on Attachments. A list of attachments appears.
- Tap an attachment to open it.
- If the message body and all the attachments are encrypted separately, save all the attachments to your device and perform the following:
- Open the encrypted body of the email.
- Open the attachments that you want to view.
Android Tablet
- From your inbox, open the encrypted PDF message notification.
- If the message body and all attachments are inside an encrypted PDF document, save the Encrypted PDF to your device and perform the following:
- Open the Encrypted PDF in Adobe Acrobat. A password prompt appears.
- Enter the password. The Encrypted PDF opens.
- Tap on the
icon. A menu opens on the left side. - Tap on Attachments. A list of attachments opens.
- Tap an attachment to open it for immediate viewing.
- If the message body and all the attachments are encrypted separately, save all the attachments to your device and perform the following:
- Open the encrypted body of the email.
- Open the attachments that you want to view.
Open Encrypted ZIP Attachments
7-Zip or WinZip is recommended to open an encrypted ZIP attachment. Your zipped attachment might be named [ENCRYPTED] attachments.zip.
Note: Standard ZIP clients (for example, Windows Explorer) will open the ZIP file, but will fail to extract the encrypted contents. For this reason, 7-Zip or WinZip must be installed to properly extract encrypted contents.
To open an encrypted ZIP, do the following:
- Download the ZIP file attached to your email. The unzipped files are displayed.
- After selecting the desired file, enter the password you have created.
Note: You only need to enter the password once to open any of the attachments contained in the ZIP file.
